Lost Creek is a town in Harrison County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 467 at the 2000 census.
GeographyLost Creek is located at (39.158451, -80.348165)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²), all land. DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 467 people, 184 households, and 133 families residing in the town. The population density was 178.5/km² (461.4/mi²). There were 207 housing units at an average density of 79.1/km² (204.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.29% White, 0.21% Asian, and 1.50% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.43% of the population. There were 184 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.7% were married couples living together, 15.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.7% were non-families. 24.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.00. In the town the population was spread out with 21.8% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 91.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males. The median income for a household in the town was $26,563, and the median income for a family was $35,893. Males had a median income of $32,292 versus $19,500 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,711. About 22.6% of families and 26.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 36.8% of those under age 18 and 20.5% of those age 65 or over. Education
Located on West Virginia Route 270 east of town, South Harrison Middle School, a West Virginia School of Excellence, is home to approximately 360 sixth through eighth grade students. South Harrison High School is home to about 437 high school students. The school colors are orange and black, and the mascot is the Hawk.
