Oakville is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 675 at the 2000 census.

History

Oakville was officially incorporated on December 18, 1905.

Geography

Oakville is located at 46°50′22″N, 123°14′1″W (46.839312, -123.233599)^[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.5 square miles (1.2 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 675 people, 233 households, and 170 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,407.3 people per square mile (543.0/km²). There were 260 housing units at an average density of 542.1/sq mi (209.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 81.04% White, 1.19% African American, 7.11% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 3.41% from other races, and 6.52% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.41% of the population.

There were 233 households out of which 42.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.6% were married couples living together, 14.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.0% were non-families. 21.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.35.

In the city the population was spread out with 34.4% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $30,357, and the median income for a family was $32,500. Males had a median income of $32,431 versus $23,214 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,428. About 17.5% of families and 18.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.7% of those under age 18 and 23.1% of those age 65 or over.

In 1994, over a two-week period in August, gelatinous substance reportedly fell from the sky six times. The mysterious goo allegedly contained white blood cells and several acids from the human stomach, and was reported to infect anyone it touched with symptoms of exhaustion, breathing problems, heavy perspiration, fainting, and other flu-like symptoms.^{[citation needed]} Several animals in the area are reported to have perished because of this. ^[1]

The whole story was published in a 1995 episode of Unsolved Mysteries.^[2] The mystery was later termed "acid rain" by authorities, although some believe it was evidence of chem trails.^{[citation needed]}
