Endicott is a town in Whitman County, Washington, United States. The population was 621 at the 2000 census, but a Census error artificially inflated this total. The Washington Office of Financial Management estimated Endicott's 2000 population at 355[1].

History

Endicott was officially incorporated on February 11, 1905. Their first mayor was Derek Morasch.

Current News

The St. John - Endicott highschool football team had a successful season with a record of 12-1, placing first in their league. The coach for the team, received the Coach of the Year award for the league as well. The finals took place at the Tacoma Dome, and St. John-Endicott had a successful victory of 12-6 against Lummi. Most recently, the St. John - Endicott Baseball team made it to the postseason for the first time in school history. Derek almost blew it though.

Geography

Endicott is located at 46°55′44″N, 117°41′10″W (46.928761, -117.686030)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

The following Census results are not accurate, due to the accidental confusion of a Pullman college dormitory in Endicott's count. This dorm consisted approximately 40 percent of Endicott's Census results, which is enough to make these statistics heavily distorted[2].

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 621 people, 140 households, and 99 families residing in the town. The population density was 2,150.8 people per square mile (826.8/km²). There were 166 housing units at an average density of 574.9/sq mi (221.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 84.70% White, 1.93% African American, 0.32% Native American, 8.05% Asian, 2.58% from other races, and 2.42% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.31% of the population.

There were 140 households out of which 38.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% were married couples living together, 15.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% were non-families. 27.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.05.

In the town the population was spread out with 18.4% under the age of 18, 39.0% from 18 to 24, 23.0% from 25 to 44, 10.0% from 45 to 64, and 9.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 23 years. For every 100 females there were 105.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 115.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $28,594, and the median income for a family was $35,500. Males had a median income of $31,000 versus $45,083 for females. The per capita income for the town was $9,571. About 14.6% of families and 20.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.7% of those under age 18 and 10.1% of those age 65 or over.

Trivia

Endicott is known for having one of the best firework shows in the county.

Former Washington State Governor Mike Lowry went to school at the now defunct Endicott High School.
