Bradford is a town in Orange County, Vermont, United States. Bradford was created under New York Patent on May 3, 1770. The population was 2,619 at the 2000 census.
GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 29.9 square miles (77.4 km²), of which, 29.8 square miles (77.2 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (0.20%) is water. The Waits River flows through Bradford to its confluence with the Connecticut River, which is the eastern boundary of the town.[3] DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,619 people, 1,028 households, and 692 families residing in the town. The population density was 87.8 people per square mile (33.9/km²). There were 1,217 housing units at an average density of 40.8/sq mi (15.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.71% White, 0.46% Black or African American, 0.46% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, and 0.99% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.61% of the population. There were 1,028 households out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. The constable in both the town and village is Gene Martin. 51.8% were married couples living together, 12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 25.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 2.98. In the town the population was spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 7.6% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males. The median income for a household in the town was $37,270, and the median income for a family was $42,128. Males had a median income of $30,865 versus $28,857 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,452. About 7.9% of families and 11.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.5% of those under age 18 and 8.1% of those age 65 or over EducationBradford is home to the following schools with a total student population of approximately 850: Oxbow High School, Bradford Elementary, Riverbend Vocational Notable residents
