Geography

Point is located at 32°55′53″N, 95°52′15″W (32.931512, -95.870957)^[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.8 square miles (7.2 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 792 people, 300 households, and 221 families residing in the city. The population density was 285.6 people per square mile (110.4/km²). There were 331 housing units at an average density of 119.4/sq mi (46.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.31% White, 1.39% African American, 1.77% Native American, 0.51% Asian, 1.14% from other races, and 1.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.55% of the population.

There were 300 households out of which 37.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.7% were married couples living together, 15.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% were non-families. 24.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the city the population was spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $25,417, and the median income for a family was $30,341. Males had a median income of $26,389 versus $19,688 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,946. About 21.5% of families and 18.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.4% of those under age 18 and 18.6% of those age 65 or over.

Education

The City of Point is served by the Rains Independent School District.
