Christoval is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tom Green County, Texas, United States. The population was 422 at the 2000 census. It is part of the 'San Angelo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area'.

Geography

Christoval is located at 31°11′38″N, 100°29′39″W (31.193947, -100.494115)^[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km²), all of it land.

The South Concho River runs through Chirstoval, and serves as a water supply to the surrounding area.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 422 people, 167 households, and 124 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 348.4 people per square mile (134.7/km²). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 180.0/sq mi (69.6/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.18% White, 0.47% African American, 1.18% Native American, 5.21% from other races, and 0.95% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.45% of the population.

There were 167 households out of which 38.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% were married couples living together, 19.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.7% were non-families. 22.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.96.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 30.6% under the age of 18, 5.5% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $26,750, and the median income for a family was $32,292. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $24,688 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $13,257. About 12.6% of families and 18.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.4% of those under age 18 and 10.2% of those age 65 or over.
