Adamsville is a city in Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,983 at the 2000 census.
GeographyAdamsville is located at (35.250124, -88.390311)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.9 square miles (18.0 km²), of which, 6.9 square miles (17.9 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.72%) is water. Adamsville is located primarily in McNairy County, Tennessee; a small part of the municipal area is in Hardin County. Notable peopleAdamsville was the home of notable lawman Buford Pusser, whose home is now a museum. Adamsville was also the birthplace and home of Ray Blanton (D), the 44th Governor of Tennessee. Adamsville is the home of the 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2006 Tennessee Division I State Champions in Marching Band. DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,983 people, 835 households, and 552 families residing in Adamsville. The population density was 287.3 people per square mile (111.0/km²). There were 937 housing units at an average density of 135.8/sq mi (52.4/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.13% White, 1.01% African American, 0.05% Native American, 0.10% Asian, and 0.71% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.50% of the population. There were 835 households out of which 25.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.8% were non-families. 31.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.73. In the town the population was spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 23.4% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 25.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 72.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 70.6 males. The median income for a household in the town was $30,929, and the median income for a family was $37,993. Males had a median income of $31,154 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,806. About 13.0% of families and 16.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.9% of those under age 18 and 36.0% of those age 65 or over. References
