Frederick is a town in Brown County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 255 at the 2000 census.
GeographyFrederick is located at (45.832812, -98.507026)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (0.9 km²), all of it land. Frederick has been assigned the ZIP code 57441 and the FIPS place code 22860. DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 255 people, 119 households, and 76 families residing in the town. The population density was 699.7 people per square mile (273.5/km²). There were 140 housing units at an average density of 384.2/sq mi (150.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.65% White, 1.18% Native American, 0.39% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population. 45.2% were of German, 22.6% Norwegian and 7.5% Finnish ancestry according to Census 2000. There were 119 households out of which 27.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.3% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% were non-families. 33.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.14 and the average family size was 2.69. In the town the population was spread out with 22.7% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 23.9% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 22.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.0 males. The median income for a household in the town was $31,500, and the median income for a family was $34,688. Males had a median income of $25,288 versus $18,214 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,881. About 11.1% of families and 11.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.4% of those under the age of eighteen and 18.8% of those sixty five or over. References
