Sharon is a town in southwestern York County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 421 at the 2000 census.
GeographySharon is located at (34.951565, -81.339360)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.3 km²), all of it land. DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 421 people, 149 households, and 113 families residing in the town. The population density was 329.7 people per square mile (127.0/km²). There were 161 housing units at an average density of 126.1/sq mi (48.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 94.54% White, 3.80% African American, 0.95% Native American, and 0.71% from two or more races. There were 149 households out of which 35.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.8% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 19.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.83 and the average family size was 3.25. In the town the population was spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males. The median income for a household in the town was $35,250, and the median income for a family was $36,875. Males had a median income of $26,071 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,798. About 7.3% of families and 8.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 10.4% of those under age 18 and 7.4% of those age 65 or over. TriviaSharon is also the location of the highest building in the southwestern section of the county,in the former Hill's Mercantile,made from bricks which were fired on-site. References
