Dalton is a borough in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, USA. The population was 1,294 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Dalton is located at 41°32′8″N, 75°44′6″W (41.535597, -75.735090)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.2 km²), of which, 3.1 square miles (8.0 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.2 km²) of it (1.90%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,294 people, 500 households, and 357 families residing in the borough. The population density was 417.4 people per square mile (161.2/km²). There were 519 housing units at an average density of 167.4/sq mi (64.6/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.15% White, 0.46% Asian, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.54% of the population.

There were 500 households out of which 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% were married couples living together, 9.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. 25.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the borough the population was spread out with 26.4% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 25.0% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.3 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $65,625. Males had a median income of $41,964 versus $30,583 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $25,760. About 5.0% of families and 6.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.8% of those under age 18 and 7.1% of those age 65 or over.
