Avondale is a borough in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,108 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Avondale is located at 39°49′32″N, 75°46′58″W (39.825609, -75.782763).^[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.5 sq mi (1.3 km²), all land.

Demographics

As of the census^[2] of 2000, there are 1,108 people, 345 households, and 247 families residing in Avondale. The population density is 2,248.7/sq mi (873.1/km²). There are 361 housing units at an average density of 732.7/sq mi (284.5/km²). The racial makeup of Avondale is 69.77% White, 16.61% African American, 0.90% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 10.38% from other races, and 2.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race account for 38.09% of the population.

There are 345 households out of which 36.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% are married couples living together, 12.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% are non-families. 21.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.08 and the average family size is 3.52.
