Paisley is a small city in Lake County, Oregon, United States. It is located along Oregon Route 31, between Summer Lake and Lake Abert.

The population was 247 at the 2000 census.

The city is the namesake for the nearby Paisley Airport and Paisley Caves.

Geography

Paisley is located at 42°41′36″N 120°32′43″W / 42.69333, -120.54528Coordinates: 42°41′36″N 120°32′43″W / 42.69333, -120.54528 (42.693249, -120.545281)[3], at an elevation of 4,369 feet (1,332 m).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 247 people, 115 households, and 80 families residing in the city. The population density was 556.3 people per square mile (216.7/km²). There were 176 housing units at an average density of 396.4/sq mi (154.4/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.98% White, 0.81% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.81% from other races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.21% of the population.

There were 115 households out of which 23.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.0% were married couples living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.6% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.56.

In the city the population was spread out with 20.2% under the age of 18, 1.6% from 18 to 24, 20.2% from 25 to 44, 34.0% from 45 to 64, and 23.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 49 years. For every 100 females there were 105.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $28,214, and the median income for a family was $30,625. Males had a median income of $21,250 versus $28,125 for females. The per capita income for the city was $16,224. About 13.0% of families and 16.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 25.0% of those under the age of eighteen and 8.1% of those sixty five or over.

Recreation

Recreational activities are available in nearby Fremont National Forest, Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge, and Goose Lake State Recreation Area (an Oregon State Park).

In 2008, the earliest evidence of human habitation in the Americas was found in Paisley Caves near Paisley, coprolites tracing to 12,000—14,000 years ago, [1].
