Crescent is the hometown of Harlem Globetrotter Hubert "Geese" Ausbie. Crescent was named after a grouping of trees that were in the shape of a crescent moon where the town is now established. The mayor is James Lowe. There is one stop light located in the center of town at the intersection of Grand (SH74) and Monroe. There are several churches in the town. Also included are gas stations, nursing home, banks (Farmers and Merchants), a grocery store (Crescent Foods), and a public school. There is fast food such as Taco Mayo and Subway available. We have a snowcone stand, open during the summer, and now have a donut shop. Crescent has one drugstore (Don's Drug) and Dollar General also has an establishment. We also have a museum featuring the artwork of some of the local students, along with a skate park and a swimming pool for the children to enjoy during the summer. Located near the museum is the carwash and storage units. The Community Center, and VFW are where many public events are held, such as school dances and other meetings. Crescent also has a couple of vintage thrift stores, and a dance studio. Sidelines is where everyone goes to get drinks at happy hour. Recently they have added a new doctors office (CIMP) Center of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics the doctor being Dr. Travis. Crescent Public Schools graduating class averages about 51 members. The mascot is the Tiger. The 1990 football team won the State Championship. Every year we get better in sports and we also have many academic championships. More information about the school can be found at www.crescentok.com. A new sports complex was built (2006-2007) east of the football field on the east side of town and can be accessed from Sanderson Road (SH74C). Crescent was also the site of highly controversial revelations within the petrochemical industry. When working conditions and manufacturing practices at a Kerr McGee facility that made plutonium became dangerous around the 1970s, problems arose. The 1983 Oscar nominated film "Silkwood" is a movie about those revelations and contains footage of the locals meeting spot, "The City Cafe", in downtown Crescent. The cafe is now vacant. All north-south streets are names of trees, while all east-west streets are former Presidents.
