GeographyPigeon Creek is located at (41.111554, -81.670321)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.9 square miles (2.3 km²), all of it land. DemographicsAs of the census[2] of 2000, there were 945 people, 322 households, and 285 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,058.5 people per square mile (410.0/km²). Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.11% of the population. There were 322 households out of which 43.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 82.6% were married couples living together, 4.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 11.2% were non-families. 9.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.93 and the average family size was 3.14. In the CDP the population was spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 21.8% from 25 to 44, 36.0% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $73,750, and the median income for a family was $80,580. Males had a median income of $51,534 versus $35,000 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $34,771. None of the population or families was below the poverty line. DescriptionPigeon Creek is not a real town, but rather a Census Designated Place in Copley Township. It is roughly in the shape of a rectangle. Surrounded by Medina Line Road, Ridgewood Road, Route 21, and a southern border that cuts through a wooded area. CDP's were created to recognize areas that are not formal government subdivisions but otherwise serve as communities. More obvious local CDP's include Montrose-Ghent and Portage Lakes. The curious thing about Pigeon Creek is that while some locals know of the creek itself, no one refers to the area by the name Pigeon Creek or by any name at all. It is just an area with woods, fields, and residences, which makes it like most of the rest of Copley. (Akron Beacon Journal, 2001) Pigeon Creek became a CDP in 1990. The Census Bureau says it creates CDP's based on local input. No one locally seems to know why it was chosen, though. (Akron Beacon Journal, 2001) References
