| Pentwater is a village in Oceana County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 958 at the 2000 census. The village is located within Pentwater Township. Pentwater is home to Mears State Park. Pentwater has a nationally renowned high school band having preformed at Carnigie Hall in 2005, under the direction of Dan Root. Penwater is home to the Indie folk band The Before And After, made up of William Root, Daniel Root, Andy Henley and Dan Shoup, three of whom attended Pentwater High School. GeographyAccording to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 4.2 km² (1.6 mi²). 3.4 km² (1.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it (20.25%) is water. DemographicsAs of the census2 of 2000, there were 958 people, 463 households, and 301 families residing in the village. The population density was 282.4/km² (733.8/mi²). There were 904 housing units at an average density of 266.4/km² (692.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.60% White, 0.21% African American, 0.31% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.63% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.15% of the population. There were 463 households out of which 17.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.8% were non-families. 31.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.06 and the average family size was 2.51. In the village the population was spread out with 15.8% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 15.1% from 25 to 44, 33.6% from 45 to 64, and 30.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 53 years. For every 100 females there were 89.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.4 males. The median income for a household in the village was $38,542, and the median income for a family was $45,909. Males had a median income of $40,750 versus $25,833 for females. The per capita income for the village was $22,783. About 6.6% of families and 8.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.1% of those under age 18 and 2.7% of those age 65 or over. External links
