New Vineyard is a town in Franklin County, Maine, United States. The population was 725 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 36.4 square miles (94.2 km²), of which, 35.9 square miles (92.9 km²) of it is land and 0.5 square miles (1.3 km²) of it (1.43%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 725 people, 279 households, and 198 families residing in the town. The population density was 20.2 people per square mile (7.8/km²). There were 432 housing units at an average density of 12.0/sq mi (4.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.07% White, 0.41% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.14% from other races, and 1.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.28% of the population.

There were 279 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.9% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.07.

In the town the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 27.2% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $29,688, and the median income for a family was $33,646. Males had a median income of $26,776 versus $18,250 for females.
