Knox is a town in Waldo County, Maine, United States. The population was 747 at the 2000 census.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 747 people, 283 households, and 208 families residing in the town. The population density was 25.6 people per square mile (9.9/km²). There were 324 housing units at an average density of 11.1/sq mi (4.3/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.46% White, 0.13% African American, and 0.40% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.40% of the population.

There were 283 households out of which 38.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.5% were non-families. 20.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.64 and the average family size was 3.06.

In the town the population was spread out with 27.7% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who were 65 years of age or older.
