Rose Hill is a city in Butler County, Kansas, United States. The population was 3,432 at the 2000 census.
GeographyRose Hill is located at (37.567951, -97.133719)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²), all of it land. DemographicsAs of the census of 2000, there are 3,432 people, 1,039 households, and 906 families residing in the city. The population density is 2,151.0 people per square mile (828.2/km²). There are 1,098 housing units at an average density of 688.2/sq mi (265.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.91% White, 0.26% African American, 0.67% Native American, 0.41% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 1.28% from two or more races. 1.81% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,039 households out of which 59.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 74.5% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 12.8% were non-families. 11.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.25 and the average family size was 3.51. There are currently 632 students enrolled in highschool at Rose Hill High. In the city the population was spread out with 37.7% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 33.4% from 25 to 44, 17.0% from 45 to 64, and 5.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.6 males. The median income for a household in the city was $63,750, and the median income for a family was $67,770. Males had a median income of $47,019 versus $31,082 for females. The per capita income for the city was $20,221. About 2.6% of families and 3.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.1% of those under age 18 and 11.6% of those age 65 or over. SchoolsRose Hill is a 4-A school district that serves more than 1,800 students in South Central Kansas. It is located in Butler County, just twelve miles southeast of Wichita. Rose Hill High School, a part of USD 394, is a 4A high school with an enrollment of 610 students. Rose Hill High School is located on the southern edge of Rose Hill. Students moved into the new facility in October of 1995. Rose Hill High School offers a strong college-bound curriculum as well as a general education program. Rose Hill High School sponsors a wide range of student activities for the purpose of providing students with additional opportunities to develop into leaders and citizens. Also as of 2005 Rose Hill High School has become one of the few schools in Kansas to give a laptop to every pupil in the school. References
