Altha is a town in Calhoun County, Florida, United States. The population was 506 at the 2000 census. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 507 [1]
GeographyAltha is located at (30.571710, -85.127533)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.8 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (2.72%) is water. DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 506 people, 204 households, and 128 families residing in the town. The population density was 136.6/km² (354.8/mi²). There were 226 housing units at an average density of 61.0/km² (158.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 95.85% White, 0.20% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 2.57% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.93% of the population. There were 204 households out of which 30.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.6% were married couples living together, 13.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.8% were non-families. 31.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.04. In the town the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.3 males. The median income for a household in the town was $27,917, and the median income for a family was $40,156. Males had a median income of $26,389 versus $22,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,677. About 8.5% of families and 17.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.2% of those under age 18 and 29.2% of those age 65 or over.
