Temelec is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 1,556 at the 2000 census.

Temelec Hall

Telemec is the site of Temelec Hall, built in 1858 by Captain Granville P. Swift, a member of the Bear Flag Party. It is currently part of the Temelec Adult Community Center. Located at 220 Temelec Circle, it was designated California Historical Landmark #237.

Temelec is located at 38°15′47″N, 122°29′36″W (38.263096, -122.493258)^[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.69 sq mi (4.4 km²), all land.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 1,556 people, 989 households, and 452 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 919.0/sq mi (355.5/km²). There were 1,045 housing units at an average density of 617.2/sq mi (238.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.53% White, 0.06% African American, 0.39% Native American, 1.74% Asian, 0.13% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.63% of the population.

There were 989 households out of which 0.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.8% were married couples living together, 3.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 54.2% were non-families. 47.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 37.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.56 and the average family size was 2.07.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 0.2% under the age of 18, 0.4% from 18 to 24, 2.6% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 74.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 73 years. For every 100 females there were 66.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 66.6 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $36,964, and the median income for a family was $49,766. Males had a median income of $45,781 versus $38,889 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $33,678. About 1.8% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 2.1% of those age 65 or over.

Politics

In the state legislature Temelec is located in the 3rd Senate District, represented by Democrat Carole Migden, and in the 6th Assembly District, represented by Democrat Jared Huffman. Federally, Temelec is located in California's 6th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of D +21^[4] and is represented by Democrat Lynn Woolsey.
