History

Officially a part of Los Angeles County’s 60th municipality on September 18, 1957, The City of Rolling Hills Estates had a population of less than 4,000 united by its will to maintain its rolling hills and signature white fences.

The incorporation of other areas, especially between the years of 1959 and 1982, into the city lines of Rolling Hills Estates began in the city’s early years. At the time, such expansion seemed to threaten the atmosphere its citizens cherished and wanted to preserve.

Today, the city of Rolling Hills Estates is home to thirty neighborhood areas. Each neighborhood is different with its own style and architecture. With individual neighborhood Homeowners' Association’s as well, each citizen and social organization is directly represented.

With its expansion and modernization to better fit the needs of its citizens, Rolling Hills Estates has managed to hold onto the down-to-earth ideals that made it so appealing to its first ever documented population.
