North El Monte is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 3,703 at the 2000 census.
GeographyNorth El Monte is located at (34.102958, -118.023319)[1], or about two miles north of El Monte. [1] According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²), all land. DemographicsAs of the census[2] of 2000, there were 3,703 people, 1,270 households, and 994 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,404.1/km² (8,751.9/mi²). There were 1,302 housing units at an average density of 1,196.9/km² (3,077.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 59.76% White, 0.76% African American, 0.27% Native American, 26.17% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 10.21% from other races, and 2.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 25.28% of the population. There were 1,270 households out of which 32.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.0% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.7% were non-families. 17.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.23. In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.6 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $48,583, and the median income for a family was $60,000. Males had a median income of $45,195 versus $28,125 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $19,192. About 6.2% of families and 7.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.4% of those under age 18 and 4.5% of those age 65 or over. PoliticsIn the state legislature North El Monte is located in the 29th Senate District, represented by Republican Bob Margett, and in the 49th Assembly District, represented by Democrat Mike Eng. Federally, North El Monte is located in California's 26th congressional district, which has a Cook PVI of R +4[3] and is represented by Republican David Dreier. External links
