Lebec is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,285 at the 2000 census.
GeographyLebec is located at (34.842248, -118.884151)[1]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 15.6 square miles (40.5 km²), all of it land. DemographicsAs of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,285 people, 456 households, and 348 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 82.3 people per square mile (31.8/km²). There were 516 housing units at an average density of 33.0/sq mi (12.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 79.30% White, 0.23% Black or African American, 1.25% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 14.01% from other races, and 4.75% from two or more races. 19.92% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 456 households out of which 37.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.7% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 19.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.82 and the average family size was 3.21. In the CDP the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.3 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $39,063, and the median income for a family was $40,972. Males had a median income of $30,729 versus $33,864 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,895. About 1.4% of families and 8.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.6% of those under age 18 and 8.9% of those age 65 or over.
