Larkfield-Wikiup is a census-designated place unincorporated area in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 7,479 at the 2000 census. It comprises the Mark West area between Santa Rosa (to the south), Windsor (north), Calistoga (east), and Fulton (west).

Geography

Larkfield-Wikiup is located at 38°30′31″N, 122°45′11″W (38.508610, -122.753180)^[2].

The CDP has a total area of 4.55 sq mi (11.8 km²), all of it land.^[1] Nevertheless, the Mark West Creek's seasonal flows pass directly through this region.

As of 2005, the landscape is made up of housing developments, interspersed with vineyards, farms, and light industry.

Demographics

As of the census^[1] of 2000, there were 7,479 people, 2,735 households, and 2,023 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,643.1 people per square mile (634.7/km²). There were 2,790 housing units at an average density of 613.0/sq mi (236.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 87.10% White, 1.03% African American, 1.11% Native American, 3.38% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 3.29% from other races, and 3.97% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 10.67% of the population.

There were 2,735 households out of which 39.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% were married couples living together, 12.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.0% were non-families. 19.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.11.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.2% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 28.7% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $62,202, and the median income for a family was $66,504. Males had a median income of $55,153 versus $35,954 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $27,062. About 6.0% of families and 6.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.9% of those under age 18 and 4.5% of those age 65 or over.

Politics

In the state legislature Larkfield-Wikiup is located in the 3rd Senate District, represented by Democrat Carole Migden, and in the 1st Assembly District, represented by Democrat Patty Berg. Federally, Larkfield-Wikiup is located in California's 6th congressional district.
