Guadalupe is a city in Santa Barbara County, California, United States. The population was 6,659 estimated in 2007. It was incorporated as a city on May 19, 1946. It is economically and socially tied to Santa Maria.

Geography

Guadalupe is located at 34°57′56″N, 120°34′23″W (34.965588, -120.573089).[1] It is in the northwestern extremity of Santa Barbara County, immediately south of the Santa Maria River. The landscape in the vicinity of the town is mostly flat, with the predominant land use being agriculture. Hills rise south of the town; on the other side is Vandenberg Air Force Base. West of town, both in Santa Barbara County and north in adjacent San Luis Obispo County, is the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes, a large region of dune habitat along the Pacific Ocean shore.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km²), all of it land.

There is a water tower in Guadalupe. It is big and blue.

City workers help keep Guadalupe clean.

Guadalupe is a small town that has been around for a while. There are about 6,500 residents in Guadalupe. Most of the buildings are businesses. There are a few apartment buildings. Most stores are family-owned. Many of the restaurants here are Mexican restaurants. There are many small stores on Main Street. La Chiquita is one of them. La Fuente is a great place to get donuts.

Some of the housing developments in Guadalupe are Point Sal Dunes and Riverview. Some people think the Masatani Mansion is haunted.

There are a lot of clean parks in Guadalupe. There is a park called Jack O'Connell park and it has a soccer field and a football field. It also has a softball field. There is new playground equipment at Jack O'Connell park.

There is a beach on the Pacific Ocean near Guadalupe. THere was a scene from Pirates of the Caribbean III filmed on the beach. There is a place in the dunes called Oso Flaco. There is a lake there.There are no sharks in guadalupe beach so you can swim and fish.


Near the school there is a pond surrounded by trees. You are not allowed to go in that area because it's against the law and you might get in trouble.

Guadalupe has a city hall that has been here for many years. The city hall was formerly the Guadalupe school. There is a basketball court in city hall. There is another basketball court outside. City hall is one of the bigger buildlings in town. The police station is in city hall. The Frank T. Almaguer tournament is held at city hall. It is a basketball tournament. You can pay your bills at city hall. There is a bell on city hall.

Near the city hall is a museum. The museum has old pictures and artifacts.

The elementary school in Guadalupe is called Mary Buren School. It has grades K through 5. Some students like to play basketball and others like to play soccer. The 6th through 8th graders go to McKenzie Junior High. There is a library at each school with computers. There is also a public library.

There is a railroad that goes through Guadalupe.

There are several baseball fields in town. There is a public library.

There is a very old jail near the bridge in town.

There are a lot of fields where farmworkers grow crops near Guadalupe. Some people also fish.

There is a football team in Guadalupe called the Guadalupe Bulldogs.

There are two new restaurants that have opened in town. One is called Girabaldi's and the other is Durango West. Durango West is one of the best restaurants in town. Victoria's is a good restaurant for Mexican food.

There is a soccer team in Guadalupe called Jalisco Junior.

There is a place you can go to learn how to wrestle and to work out.

There is a football team in Guadalupe called the Guadalupe Bulldogs, we are a good team and we've won about 17 games.Javi Sanchez is a stud, and beat the record for the most Threes in a row. Seven threes in a row.

Guadalupe is home of JMZ Coffee Shop. It opened on the 16th of September 2007. It is locally owned.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 5,659 people, 1,414 households, and 1,217 families residing in the city. The population density was 4,091.6 people per square mile (1,583.3/km²). There were 1,450 housing units at an average density of 1,048.4/sq mi (405.7/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 45.54% White, 0.71% African American, 1.86% Native American, 5.88% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 38.70% from other races, and 7.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 84.48% of the population.

There were 1,414 households out of which 53.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.8% were married couples living together, 16.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 13.9% were non-families. 11.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 4.00 and the average family size was 4.24.

In the city the population was spread out with 35.6% under the age of 18, 11.7% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 15.2% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 females there were 104.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $31,205, and the median income for a family was $31,042. Males had a median income of $24,250 versus $17,870 for females. The per capita income for the city was $11,608. About 23.4% of families and 25.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 28.9% of those under age 18 and 15.7% of those age 65 or over.They have great restraunt like Durango West,far western,king falafel and La Fuente.
