Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. The population was 2,361 at the 2000 census.
GeographyAptos Hills-Larkin Valley is located at (36.960860, -121.831386)[1]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 9.3 square miles (24.1 km²), of which, 9.3 square miles (24.0 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.43%) is water. DemographicsAs of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,361 people, 845 households, and 622 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 254.8 people per square mile (98.4/km²). There were 881 housing units at an average density of 95.1/sq mi (36.7/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 84.50% White, 0.64% African American, 0.38% Native American, 1.86% Asian, 0.30% Pacific Islander, 7.62% from other races, and 4.70% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 15.21% of the population. There were 845 households out of which 33.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% were married couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% were non-families. 17.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.79 and the average family size was 3.10. In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 32.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 100.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.6 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $70,417, and the median income for a family was $75,359. Males had a median income of $60,898 versus $42,500 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $32,890. About 3.6% of families and 3.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.0% of those under age 18 and 4.8% of those age 65 or over. PoliticsIn the state legislature Aptos Hills-Larkin Valley is located in the 15th Senate District, represented by Republican Abel Maldonado, and in the 27th Assembly District, represented by Democrat John Laird.
