Creswell is a city in the Willamette Valley of Lane County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 3,579 residents. The 2007 estimate is 4,650 residents.[3] The city has a general aviation airport, Hobby Field, (IATA airport code:775, ICAO airport code: K77S), and is located on Interstate 5 and Oregon Route 99.
GeographyCreswell is located at (43.918174, -123.021507)[4]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²), of which, 1.2 square miles (3.1 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (2.42%) is water. DemographicsAs of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,579 people, 1,271 households, and 911 families residing in the city. The population density was 2,957.0 people per square mile (1,142.0/km²). There were 1,343 housing units at an average density of 1,109.6/sq mi (428.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 89.02% White, 0.31% African American, 1.82% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 4.08% from other races, and 4.08% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.01% of the population. There were 1,271 households out of which 41.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% were married couples living together, 13.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.3% were non-families. 21.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.21. In the city the population was spread out with 31.3% under the age of 18, 8.5% from 18 to 24, 30.8% from 25 to 44, 18.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.7 males. The median income for a household in the city was $34,053, and the median income for a family was $40,709. Males had a median income of $28,583 versus $22,917 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,736. About 15.3% of families and 19.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 24.1% of those under age 18 and 5.3% of those age 65 or over. School sportsCreswell High School Boy's Basketball: 2004 was the fourth time Creswell boy's played in the Championship round. They took 1st in 1969 with infamous coach, Harland Towne, who has attended every championship game, with his twin sons Mike and Pat who were team members of those state champs. Then, in 1984, Creswell returned to the championship tourney and took second to LaSalle. Probably the most famous victory in Creswell history was in 2000 when Creswell beat Philomath 56-40. That team was led by Luke Jackson who played for the University of Oregon (2000-2004) and went number 10 in the 2004 NBA Draft to the Cleveland Cavaliers (2004 - Present). In 2004, Creswell was the smallest school in the tourney (next biggest school had 140 more students - Creswell had 378 students while the average school at the tournament had 640 students).
