Monday, 03 October 2011
As a parent, you would want your child to become successful and grow with a positive outlook in life. This can be a possibility if they have trust in their potentials and abilities. Learning to trust in the self will build a strong self esteem that can bring them to where they wanted in life. The development of self esteem can be first taught and experienced at home. As parents you have the capacity to build the confidence of your children so that they will become better persons in the future.

You can develop and inculcate values in your children from the way you communicate and respond to what they have done. For instance, if they failed to do something but placed a lot of effort for it, appreciate the effort and let them feel how proud you are. Correct any mistakes and say it in a truthful manner. For instance it you do not like your child making a mess in your living room, say in a truthful and calm way that you would appreciate it if he or she would clean the mess.

Be a role model. Act what you speak to your children. Develop self esteem in yourself so that you will enlighten your children on what they are supposed to do. You are like the stun gun flashlight that will guide the way of your children when they have still no idea of what to do and what they must avoid doing. So be the light for your kids and be the best teacher that you can be.

Redirect your child to what they believe in and what they want to do in life. Orient them with what they can achieve for now and let them realize what their capacities and potentials are. If they want to do something creative like drawing, guide them and appreciate the effort. You are there to develop your child and not to stop them from moving forward.

Let your child feel how proud you are through little actions and simple notes. Boost the self confidence of your child by telling them how proud you are. These little surprises can have an effect on how your kids will feel about themselves just like how stun guns for women can give a surprised look to any attacker who thought that women are defenseless. A simple note on the bed or lunch box before an exam can make them feel that your full support is with them.

Guide your child at the same time, teach them to be independent. Making them feel that they can do it on their own will build their trust on what they can do about themselves. It will be their driving force to aim high and try to do their best to become successful.

Your kids need your help. You are the first teacher of your child who will let them learn about what life is and build their self esteem that they can face what lies ahead for them with you as their guide and with a strong self esteem and boosted confidence.
