Baking Christmas Cookies With Kids - Adding Magic to the Holidays E-mail
Tuesday, 27 December 2011
I don't know but every time I smell aroma of a freshly-baked cookie, it brings back fond memories. There is something about a cookie that is so special and smelling that cookie scent feels like I am taken back to my childhood time in a calm place where I want to enjoy the cookie all on my own with a cup of my favorite coffee.

Cookies are always gratifying and very enjoyable to make at home. If you have young kids who can enjoy making them with you, they surely will enjoy from gathering all the ingredients, to heaping, to mixing, to baking! When I was small, I used to help grandma mix all the cookie ingredients together and shaping them in many forms and sizes before she put them in the oven. While waiting for the cookies to get cooked, I remember how I very much enjoyed licking the mixing bowl clean of the cookie mixture! Perhaps this is where some of my precious cookie memories come from. I saw my little self with my 4 years old daughter when her face lit up after I suggested if she could help me bake some cookies. It was actually her first time, and although we made quite a mess, we really had a great time together, and it reminded me of how grandma taught me baking cookies.

If you haven't tried baking with your young kids, why not give your next cookie-baking a try? Simply buy ready cookie mixes that you just have to add water to. Read and learn your recipe together and teach your kids why it is important to follow the instructions in the recipe rather than just dump everything together. They will love learning all the why's and the how's of making cookies, and this can satisfy their desire to create and design cookies in their wild-free imagination.

Decorating different shapes of cookies afterwards is also something most kids love to do. It gave me a sense of fulfillment seeing my kids try their hands at decorating sugar cookies, there was so much fun! They enjoyed with color and decorations and it was all good. I gave them the idea of giving away some of their homemade cookies which made them start thinking of wild-free designs for their creation. Not just that, we had a great talk and some precious memories together too. In today's almost all-bought-from-the-store stuffs, a little cookie made and designed by a grandchild for Christmas or any occasion is bound to be enjoyed far more than a cookie bought in the store.

Baking cookies with your children can be one of the well-spent times with your aspiring chefs. You don't have to be good with baking to make this successful, the recipe will guide you with the things to do. On the holidays, why not add magic to the season with packages of your kid's homemade cookie gifts under the tree! Children would love it. Who knows, your kids will discover the most magnificent cookies you have ever known.

Have a great time baking with your kids!
